In my mother’s skin
video installation 05:42, 2018 NL
In the fall of 2018 I took part in a group exhibition at the Paleisstraat 107, Amsterdam. My mother happened to live in this building as a student. The only photo of her I found from this period is a Polaroid in which she is naked in her room looking through the blinds. I wondered what it would be like to be that girl. What did she dream of? What did she, with all her own experiences, wanted her daughter to become?
In this project I created an outfit with sublimated photo’s of my mothers skin. To literally be her and ask; what have you wanted to teach me about being a woman and (that uneasy topic) sex?
How are we influenced by our previous generations?
